Most Dangerous Tree Removal Situations

Trees are treasured additions to most yards, but there are times when they need to be removed. For example, your tree may be diseased, or it may have been seriously damaged by a recent storm. Sometimes, trees are simply in the wrong place, and they limit your ability to use your yard as desired. For example, you might not be able to build a deck or install a pool until a specific tree is removed. While eliminating any tree comes with safety risks, there are some situations that are far more dangerous than others.

Trees Near Powerlines

As trees grow, their branches can intertwine with powerlines. Even if a tree hasn’t grown around powerlines, it might still be within striking distance of the lines when it falls. Damaged powerlines pose a risk of fires and electrocutions, so any trees near powerlines should be trimmed and removed by well-trained experts who have proper safety gear to minimize the risk of injuries or worse.

Weakened Trees

When a tree is diseased or dead, its branches and maybe even its trunk are severely weakened. Even if a tree appears strong on the exterior, it could have wood rot or hollow areas inside the trunk. These trees are much more likely to break or snap during the removal process. Safe tree removal requires you to control the movement of the tree as it falls, so a sudden and unexpected break is more likely to cause injuries.

Uprooted Trees

During a storm, even large trees can get uprooted. This often happens due to the combination of strong winds and saturated soil from heavy rains. A down tree is relatively stationary, but a partially down tree is a serious hazard. It might be angled in the ground with part of its roots showing or leaning against your house or another structure. These trees have stressed branches and trunks, and they can move in unexpected directions as they’re cut.

Trees Near Your Home

Trees are often planted near homes to provide much-needed shade or simply for aesthetics. Trees may also be located farther away from the home near a fence or a secondary structure. It’s often difficult to discern just how tall a tree is from the ground level, so it’s not easy to properly determine how close to these structures the limbs and trunk may fall when removing the trees. These trees often must be removed with cranes, friction gear, and ropes to better control where the branches and trunk land during removal.

Cutting down trees safely requires specialized skills, proper safety gear, and the right combination of special equipment. Professional tree removal services are typically the best way to get rid of unwanted or dangerous trees.
